Meet the New Nextdoor: A Redesign of our Product, Refounding of Our Company, and Recommitment to Local Community

Today marks the launch of the new Nextdoor: the most significant product evolution in our company’s history. We're also relaunching our brand identity by returning to the home logo, a powerful symbol of both where we've been and where we're going. Every neighborhood starts with a home.

    Why We're Evolving

We based our product on the universal desire to know who and what is happening around us. We were inspired by the realization that in a world fixated on what's trending out there, people can easily miss what's happening right here. We scroll by the entire world each day, but miss the neighborhood stroll just steps away.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Over fifteen years, we've grown to serve over 100 million verified neighbors across 11 countries and 345,000 neighborhoods. But growth has brought complexity, and somewhere along the way, neighbors felt our product had drifted away from our roots in utility and local community.

We listened to you, neighbors, and heard your feedback. We understand that you want Nextdoor to be much more relevant in your daily lives. So we've reimagined Nextdoor to be more useful, timely, and relevant – an easier and more powerful way for you to tap into the power of your local community.

Three Pillars of the New Nextdoor

We've built the new Nextdoor around three guiding principles designed to make our product an indispensable part of your local life:

ALERTS: Stay safe and prepared with real-time alerts. Neighbors have long turned to Nextdoor  in moments of crisis. With Nextdoor Alerts, we go further to deliver real-time updates on everything from daily weather, traffic and public safety to critical moments like power outages, severe storms, and wildfires. Severe alerts appear at the top of the feed to support timely conversations between neighbors and public agency partners, like fire departments. Everyday alerts appear on a dynamic neighborhood map. Powered by trusted sources such as Samdesk and Weather.com, Alerts reinforce Nextdoor’s  role as a vital lifeline during critical times.

NEWS: Keep informed with local news from trusted sources. Local news has long had a place on the Nextdoor platform, with neighbors regularly sharing and discussing the day's events. Now relevant stories from local vetted publishers appear regularly and directly in the feed, tailored to a neighbor's location. Whether it's a new proposed bike lane, a local restaurant opening, or the high school team's recent win, Nextdoor News makes it easier for neighbors to join the conversation. We're launching with over 3,500 local publications across the US, UK, and Canada - including respected outlets like the San Francisco Standard, the London Standard, and the Toronto Star. News is available in 77% of the US cities represented on our platform, collectively delivering over 50,000 locally relevant stories each week. Trusted outlets are now reaching neighbors directly through our platform, bringing community-focused journalism to neighborhoods everywhere.

FAVES: Discover the best of your neighborhood, recommended by neighbors. Recommendations, which include requests for advice and offers of local services, have always been core to Nextdoor, driving 30% of all neighbor posts and fueling real-world decisions. Nextdoor Faves brings that experience to the next level, using AI technology to look through 14 years of neighborhood conversations about beloved local gems and create an easy to read summary in seconds. With Faves, neighbors can ask a question like, "what is the best place to hike with kids?" and receive a quick, summarized response—just like asking a knowledgeable local. Faves now make it easier for neighbors to discover and share the best of their community—like local services, local businesses, and places to explore.

What This Means for Our Neighbor Communities

The new Nextdoor represents our recommitment to local communities around the world. We aim for our product to be essential in neighbors’ local lives by keeping them informed with hyperlocal information, keeping them safe with timely alerts, and keeping them smart with trusted recommendations from your community. These are the top needs that neighbors articulated over and over again as we drew up this new vision.

Our goal is to be the essential place neighbors go for everything happening in their area. We bring people together to discuss what matters locally and help them get more out of where they live. When neighbors are better informed, connected to each other, and actively engaged in their community, the whole neighborhood becomes stronger.
